Long Distance Float Bobber – Waggler Missile – Weighted float.
Long distance float fishing is needed at times and is a really exciting way to catch fish. Use your long distance float (bobber) to get past shallow areas, reach for shy fish further away and in windy conditions.
If you need to cover large areas of water and deliver either artificial or live baits long distance, this long distance float offers you the ability to make long-distance casts on spinning tackle to fish your extreme conditions. If you are fishing deep water over 20 ft., or you wish to cast 100 – 15o feet away, this float will do so. Weighted waggle fishing in Europe is very popular an nearly every angler has these in their boxes. While the long distance float has great casting ability, when property weighted so just the orange tip is visible (use split shot beneath float to sink most of the float stem), the waggler still is sensitive to show you bites. There is nothing more exciting than watching your long distance float rise or sink in the water 60 yards away.
Conversion weights for floats:
8 Grams = .28 oz
7 Grams = .25 oz
6 Grams = .22 oz
5 Grams = .20 oz
(larger floats cast further – floats are pre-weighted – can be fished slip bobber style or fixed depth)
Long Distance Float Casting Tips:
Here are a few long distance float casting tips that will really pay off. Use a longer rod and a big reel loaded with light line (4 lb. or 3 lb.) line to max out your casts. Great float rods are those that are “fast action” meaning they don’t bend in half like a noodle. In American rods you can find some crappie rods will fit the bill. 9 – 14′ rods are awesome for sending long distance floats 60 yards onto your fishing spot. Medium action or light medium may give you the stiffness you need to be a proper float rod. If you are fishing a longer float rod, you also will benefit being able to fish deeper without making a slip float rig! Float rods are longer and great for shore fisherman who want added distance, better line pick-up and faster hook sets. You also benefit from being able to play the fish better. A longer rod also means you need a longer net handle.
Before you cast any float – make sure the line is not wrapped or twisted around the tip! You can check this by tugging the line above your reel to make sure the line is loose. If it is snug- you are wrapped. Making sure the line is not twisted is essential as line twisted around the tip will snap your line and you will lose your float. Another way to prevent this is when bringing the float back – wave your rod even with your shoulders straight out to the side. Keep your rod flat to the ground as it goes back and the rig will tend to stay straight before you cast. If you go straight back over your head- you will find the line twists around your float rod. The tangled line on rod tip is the number one way to lose a float.
As you use 6 lb. or heavier lines, your casts will go shorter. If you must use the thicker line you can still cast a long way out from your position. Thicker lines will kill your cast and thinner lines are advised! Remember, when casting a float, you don’t need as much force on the cast as a lure. The weight of the float propels the cast so reduced force is used. After the float lands in the water, you can quickly reel in with your rod tip below the water and sink the line. Sinking the line will keep your float in place even at a long distance away.
The float (bobber) comes pre-loaded with it’s own weight which means you won’t have to use as much split shot to sink your rig, saving you money and setup time. At longer distances, you can leave some split shot off to raise the float antenna upward- offering high visibility at long distance. The high-visibility yellow stem can be seen clear across the lake!
Can be fished on Firewire braided or mon0 filament lines and using many baits including baits up to medium-sized minnows.
